It cater the needs of the irrigation department and other sister departments in the state besides providing testing and consultancy services for other public and private organisations.The institute is located at Peechi, off NH 544 at Pattikkad. Distance from Thrissur is 23km and from Pattikkad is 9km. It is located adjacent to Peechi dam and Kerala Forest Research Institute.
