Construction Materials and Foundation Engineering division is functioning at head quarters under the office of Director, Fundamental and Applied Research, Peechi. There are three subdivisions under the Joint Director, CM& FE.
- Construction materials division.
- Soil mechanics and foundations division
- Instrumentation division
Construction Material Division is engaged in Research and Quality ensuring programmes concerned with building materials. Soil Mechanics & Foundations Division is basically engaged in testing and consultancy activities. Instrumentation Division looks after Non destructive testing, field testing including soil exploration with the assistance of other two divisions.

Soil Mechanics and Foundation
- Laboratory testing of soil samples
- Geophysical survey for site characterization
- Consultancy related to Geotechnical Engineering
- R & D activities in the area of Geotechnical Engineering

- Internship for engineering students.
The laboratories have excellent facilities and we are stepping towards getting the laboratory NABL accredited. Our clients include government, public and private organizations.

Instrumentation Division
The division mainly looks after soil exploration programmes and other field testing including in-situ permeability testing, in-situ vane shear testing and SPT.
The division also looks after the publication wing of KERI and the library and conference hall.
The division conducts in-house training programmes as also training for department staff and engineers of other government departments.
